After our last DesignMeets mixer at the Spoke Club, we were approached by Dominique Scheffel-Dunand (Director of the UofT McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology) to help the McLuhan100 team to organize another event. This time on Marshall McLuhan’s birthday — what an honour!

In an age when twitter, facebook, tumblr and other social media avenues are becoming part of the norm of how we communicate, how does this affect us as designers of things and spaces? Do we communicate better or just differently?
With the ongoing tablet wars, Google’s I/O convention, and advancements in the world of sustainability, the the marketplace is saturated with things that are new and improved leaving people on their own to weed out the fluff and figure out what really works for them.
So it only makes sense that ‘innovation’ is a pretty hot topic these days.
In 1993, documentary filmmaker Amy Bodman traveled to Zimbabwe ‘to make a film about land as a living entity’. Over the past 8 months, Pivot has worked with Amy to create posters, film title cards, and a DVD package to house the film itself and the extra sequences.
