Previously, George Brown College’s annual reports had focused primarily on showcasing how the college is fulfilling its mandate to provide high-quality education and workplace readiness for a diverse student body.
The 2016 report needed to serve a different purpose: to reinforce the impression among readers that George Brown College is an ideal partner for industry, donors and funders, academic institutions and all levels of government — all of whom play a role in supporting student success.
Overall, the annual report needed to answer the question “why should I partner with George Brown College?” and to demonstrate that partnership with the college is not only integral to the success of students, but also benefits employers, educational institutions, donors and community partners they work with.
We developed the title “More Than You Expect” in reference to the many services and benefits George Brown is bringing partners that one would never have guessed would come from a college, and worked closely with photographer Mark Ridout to bring this concept of surprise to life.
Another unique challenge was the request to create a modular design to allow for some content to be repurposed in future years. The solution was a central booklet showcasing all of the timeless stories about partnerships with the college along with a removable jacket containing time-specific information like statistics, donor lists, and financials.
The result is a dynamic report and jacket that together tell an impressive story of George Brown College and it’s partnerships — with the flexibility of being added on to in future years and maintain relevancy beyond the year it was created.
