Scenario Development
Scenario development represents the backbone of our creative process and provides your organization with opportunities for true innovation. These future-oriented stories anticipate the features that will be necessary to delight your audience. They can also improve collective strategic thinking at all levels within your organization and they help our designers anticipate the functional and emotional requirements of your users’ experiences. The real power of such storytelling is that it is highly collaborative; all categories of stakeholders can easily, and meaningfully, contribute their ideas.
A good story, in many ways, is the earliest stage of prototyping. As such, these scenarios establish a framework for communication, evaluation and evolution throughout the design process. Scenario analyses can also provide a useful tool for increasing client awareness about issues such as technological limitations or behaviour patterns within a user population. This conceptual architecture helps us work with clients to prioritize capabilities, and to establish a directed strategy for how your product or service will reflect and extend your brand.
Our Approach
At Pivot, we develop scenarios or models in four phases: creation, prototyping, testing and validation. We imagine each person's ideal experience with your product and/or service, and describe these experiences in a narrative form. We’ll work with you to write (or storyboard) high-level descriptions of all essential and desired features of your organization’s product and/or service—these descriptions become the stories, or scenarios, that we use to forecast what could be. We can also readily explore multiple narratives.
Each scenario describes the specific steps carried out by the audience and the context in which they act. The scenarios provide project stakeholders with a framework in which to make decisions about design, features and functionality, and also to focus on end-user motivations and actions.
Benefits
- Provides an understanding of how an audience interacts with your brand product and/or service;
- Conveys audience tasks and contexts of use in a format that is easily understood by project stakeholders;
- De-risks design by ensuring the process aligns with intended experiences.
